Harmeet Dhillon rose to lead the DOJ Civil Rights Division after a career supporting election denialism and representing Trump in implausible defamation suits. Ed Whelan became a conservative legal figure by promoting a conspiracy theory during the Brett Kavanaugh confirmation hearings, earning the nickname Zillow Ed. Chief Judge Patrick Schlitz ordered Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons to appear personally over delays and noncompliance, declaring that the court's patience had ended and threatening contempt. ICE released Juan Tobay Robles to avoid Lyons' court appearance. Right-wing media attacked Schlitz for donations to legal services for low-income and immigrant clients; Schlitz acknowledged those contributions.
