Sen. Alex Padilla says he won't run for governor of California, plans to remain in the Senate

"It is with a full heart and even more commitment than ever that I'm choosing to not run for governor of California next year," Sen. Padilla said."

Sen. Alex Padilla announced he will not run for California governor next year and will remain in the United States Senate. He framed the decision as a commitment to continue fighting for the Constitution, fundamental rights, core values and the American dream. Padilla said he chooses to stay in the Senate and stay in the fight for those principles. Major contenders in the gubernatorial race include former congresswoman Katie Porter, former health secretary Xavier Becerra and former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
