Sen. Alex Padilla announced he will not run for California governor next year and will remain in the U.S. Senate. He said he will focus on countering President Trump's agenda in Congress. He emphasized staying in the Senate to defend the Constitution, fundamental rights, core values, and the American dream. He said the decision followed an outpouring of support and encouragement to run over the past two months. He said he has tried to fight attacks in Washington and in California. He said these are not normal times and that people deserve better.
