Sen. Adam Schiff opens legal defense fund amid talks of DOJ probe
Briefly

Senator Adam Schiff started a legal defense fund amid talks of a Department of Justice inquiry into his finances. Spokesperson Marisol Samayoa said Donald Trump and MAGA allies are weaponizing the justice process and that the fund will allow Schiff to fight baseless smears while continuing his duties. Trump accused Schiff of possible mortgage fraud, called the allegation very serious and suggested Schiff be brought to justice. Schiff described the accusations as false and as political retribution. Schiff led the 2019 impeachment prosecution of Trump and served on the Jan. 6 investigative committee. His office said he accurately told lenders that a Maryland home purchased in 2003 would be a principal residence and that he disclosed ownership of a California home.
U.S. Senator Adam Schiff, the top prosecutor in President Donald Trumps impeachment trial in 2019 and who has long been a prime target of the president, recently started a legal defense fund amid talks of an investigation by the Department of Justice into his finances. It's clear that Donald Trump and his MAGA allies will continue weaponizing the justice process to attack Senator Schiff for holding this corrupt administration accountable, Marisol Samayoa, a spokesperson for the California Democrat, said in a statement.
Trump, last month, accused Schiff of possible mortgage fraud which he called very serious and suggested that the senator needs to be brought to justice. Schiff at the time said the president's allegations were false and amounted to political retribution. Besides leading the impeachment trial against Trump during the president's first term, Schiff had served on the committee that investigated the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol when he was still in the U.S. House of Representatives.
