""Santa's coming to town a little early," Duffy said in his X post. "776 patriotic men and women will get $10K checks, just in time for Christmas," he added, specifying that the checks would go to rewarding people "for showing up to work EVERY DAY.""
""My concern is, for those air traffic controllers who, before they missed a paycheck, and were in the shutdown, they decided on a continual basis not to show up for work,""
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said 776 air traffic controllers who worked during the 43-day government shutdown will receive $10,000 bonus checks scheduled to arrive in early December. Duffy posted on X, saying "Santa's coming to town a little early," and said the payments reward those who showed up to work every day. The X post included a clip from the movie Elf and a clip of President Trump endorsing rewards for controllers who worked without pay. More than 13,000 controllers worked without pay during the shutdown, per a department plan. Duffy also raised concerns about penalizing controllers who repeatedly called in sick before missing paychecks. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced similar $10,000 bonuses for some TSA officers.
