Bessent compared Newsom to fictional Patrick Bateman and a Sparkle Beach Ken doll, and said Newsom may know less about economics than Kamala Harris. Bessent accused Newsom of socializing with Alex Soros, condemned Newsom’s draconian COVID-19 measures and dining while Californians were locked down, and warned of a forthcoming federal crackdown on waste, fraud, and abuse in California. Bessent also blamed Newsom for outward migration, a large budget deficit, and severe homelessness.
