Scott Bessent Rules Out Further Questions on $1.8 Billion Fund After Fielding Softball From MAGA Influencer

The Department of Justice operates a $1.8 billion Anti-Weaponization Fund tied to a settlement connected to a $10 billion IRS-related lawsuit. The fund has drawn political scrutiny. During a White House press briefing, a question raised concerns about how the IRS settlement was rolled over into the DOJ fund and how decisions were made. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he would not comment because litigation is ongoing and referred questions to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche. Bessent cited alleged IRS misconduct, including a leak of more than 400,000 tax returns, and said no American should be targeted for political reasons. DOJ represented Treasury and the IRS in the matter.
