""This is really just unfortunate that we're dealing with this," Rep. Joe Morelle (D-N.Y.) told Axios. "We have all these other issues in the world we have to deal with ... this is really local politics and I don't know that it has a place here," he added."
""Representative García's actions are beneath the dignity of his office and incompatible with the spirit of the United States Constitution," the measure says, with Gluesenkamp Perez accusing him of "election subversion.""
""followed all requirements and deadlines under Illinois law.""
Progressive Caucus members are considering a resolution accusing Gluesenkamp Perez of lying about not accepting corporate PAC donations. The potential measure would cite reporting that Gluesenkamp Perez's campaign and PAC allegedly accepted donations from the American Petroleum Institute PAC and the American Forest and Paper Association PAC. Gluesenkamp Perez introduced a resolution of disapproval against Rep. García for withdrawing his reelection bid just before Illinois' ballot filing deadline, making his chief of staff the sole Democratic candidate. The disapproval resolution calls García's actions beneath the dignity of his office and accuses him of election subversion. García's allies cite a health scare and family obligations and stress he "followed all requirements and deadlines under Illinois law." Rep. Joe Morelle called the dispute unfortunate and described it as misplaced local politics amid larger national issues.
