"Campus safety is the University Police Department's top priority,"
"The safety and security of our campus events is our top priority and we have established protocols in place when we have large-scale events on cam"
San Jose State University is reviewing safety protocols and increasing campus police presence after the targeted shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk at Utah Valley University. University Police are engaging with students and faculty to encourage reporting of suspicious activity. Officers coordinate with event organizers to assess security needs, plan crowd and traffic control, and determine if additional security is required. Kirk previously visited SJSU in 2023, prompting heightened safety measures, collaboration with his security team, and management of counterprotests. Protests after that 2023 event damaged a Student Union window but caused no injuries or arrests.
