House members voted to table an effort to censure Rep. LaMonica McIver and to prevent her removal from the House Committee on Homeland Security. Five Republicans joined Democrats to block the censure, while two Republicans voted present; a total of 210 Republicans are reported as having voted in favor overall. McIver and other lawmakers visited a New Jersey ICE facility in May to protest the treatment of undocumented migrants and were denied entry; video shows a physical altercation involving shoving and shouting. Acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba announced charges accusing McIver of assaulting and impeding law enforcement, which McIver denied. The censure effort was introduced by Rep. Clay Higgins, and Representatives Dave Joyce, Don Bacon, and Kevin Kiley were among those who sided with Democrats in tabling the measure.
