Sen. Rand Paul warned that angering Greenlanders and threatening military intervention would undermine any U.S. effort to acquire Greenland. He said rhetoric about marching Marines into Greenland would make Greenlanders unwilling to sell. Paul also said a military invasion is unlikely and that few in Washington on either side of the aisle support such action. The White House told Reuters it was keeping all options open to acquire Greenland from Denmark, including military intervention. The White House framed acquiring Greenland as a national security priority and confirmed the U.S. military remains an available option. Paul expressed disapproval of that stance.
