Sen. Rand Paul condemned fellow Republicans' proposal to increase the debt ceiling by $5 trillion during an interview on Fox Business. He accused them of abandoning conservative principles regarding spending and emphasized the importance of maintaining fiscal discipline. Paul expressed willingness to negotiate spending cuts, but firmly opposed adding to the national debt. He criticized the lack of tangible budget reductions from recommended spending cuts and urged his party to stand firm against excessive borrowing, warning that raising the debt ceiling could damage the party's credibility with voters.
I support cutting as much spending as we could get consensus on. I will even accept compromise on how much spending cuts we can get, but I'm not voting to add five trillion to the deficit or to the debt ceiling.
This is what's going to be so disappointing to the American public when they find out that all the DOGE was doing... never got translated in because no one had the wherewithal and the guts to say let's don't raise the debt sealing that much.
