Princeton Professor Resigns From Heritage Board
""Kevin is a good man," George wrote in a Facebook post. "He made what he acknowledged was a serious mistake. Being human myself, I have plenty of experience in making mistakes. What divided us was a difference of opinion about what was required to rectify the mistake.""
""My hope for Heritage is that it will be unbending and unflinching in its fidelity to its founding vision, upholding the moral principles of the Judeo-Christian tradition and the civic principles of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States," he wrote."
"According to New York Times and other outlets, Roberts later said he "didn't know much about this Fuentes guy," and the aide who wrote his video remarks has since resigned."
Robert George resigned Monday from the Heritage Foundation Board of Trustees, citing an "impasse" with the think tank's current leadership. George is McCormick Professor of Jurisprudence and director of the James Madison Program at Princeton and had served on the board since 2019. The resignation followed controversy over Heritage president Kevin Roberts' defense of Tucker Carlson's interview with Nick Fuentes, a white supremacist and Holocaust denier. Roberts declined to retract a video in which he said he abhors Fuentes' statements but did not want to cancel Fuentes or Carlson, whom he called a "close friend." Roberts later said he "didn't know much about this Fuentes guy," and an aide who drafted his remarks resigned. George described Roberts as a good man but said they differed on how to rectify the mistake and expressed hope that Heritage uphold its founding moral and civic principles.
