Pressley decides not to challenge Markey, opting for reelection campaign
"Ultimately in this moment, I feel called to fight for the MA 7th in Congress,"
"I'm not closing the door to a Senate run down the line, and I've never done the work of organizing or movement building just for an election cycle, that's the work that I do year-round and especially in these unprecedented times, so that work will continue."
Rep. Ayanna Pressley will not enter the current Massachusetts Senate contest and will run for reelection to the U.S. House representing the 7th District. Pressley represents much of Boston and is a prominent progressive member of Congress. Sen. Ed Markey declared his reelection bid, prompting challengers and speculation about younger Democrats. Rep. Seth Moulton launched a primary challenge citing concerns about Markey's age and a desire to move beyond the status quo. Pressley consulted allies and considered a run, but polling showed Markey leading while indicating a three-way race could alter dynamics. Pressley said she may consider a future Senate run and will continue organizing work year-round.
