President Donald Trump granted pardons to former NFL players Joe Klecko, Nate Newton, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry and the late Billy Cannon. White House pardon czar Alice Marie Johnson announced the pardons and thanked Trump on social media, writing that football embodies grit and second chances. Johnson said Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones personally shared the news with Newton. The White House did not provide a reason for the pardons. Each pardoned player had prior criminal convictions ranging from perjury and drug trafficking to conspiracy and counterfeiting, alongside notable NFL achievements such as Pro Bowl selections and awards. Klecko was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2023.
