A University of North Florida poll shows Byron Donalds at 29% and Casey DeSantis at 32% among Republicans for the 2026 governor's race. The primary election will occur on August 18, 2026, and is more than a year away. While Donalds has campaigned for months, DeSantis has not officially announced her candidacy. Donalds' appeal is stronger among past primary voters, and he has shown significant improvement from earlier polls compared to DeSantis, whose lead has declined significantly since the fall of 2023.
Among folks who voted in the last primary, Donalds is 15 points ahead of DeSantis, and it's likely those same folks will be the ones voting next August.
The results represent larger improvement over time than for DeSantis. A fall 2023 University of North Florida survey found DeSantis with 22% and Donalds had 9%.
