(AP Photo/Pablo Martinez Monsivais, File) The Pokemon Company on Tuesday made clear that it had no involvement in the creation of the Department of Homeland Security's recent video showing its immigration crackdown. On Monday's DHS posted a video on social media with the caption, Gotta Catch Em All."
"We are aware of a recent video posted by the Department of Homeland Security that includes imagery and language associated with our brand, The Pokemon Company International said in a statement shared with IGN. Our company was not involved in the creation or distribution of this content, and permission was not granted for the use of our intellectual property. A day after Pokemon's statement, DHS was again confronted over unauthorized media."
DHS posted a social media video captioned Gotta Catch Em All that paired Pokemon imagery and the franchise's theme song with clips of agents arresting migrants. The Pokemon Company said it had no involvement in creating or distributing the clip and that permission was not granted to use its intellectual property. The company communicated the statement to IGN. A day after that statement, DHS faced a separate complaint for using a clip of comedian Theo Von saying, "Heard you got deported, dude. Bye." Von demanded DHS remove the clip.
