Pipe bomb suspect told FBI he targeted U.S. political parties, memo says
"feel that, you know, something as important as voting in the federal election is being tampered with, is being, you know, being you know, relegated null and void, then, like, someone needs to speak up, right? Someone up top. You know, just to, just to at the very least calm things down."
"speak up"
"in charge,"
Brian J. Cole Jr. is accused of placing homemade pipe bombs outside the Democratic and Republican national committee headquarters on Jan. 6, 2021. The devices did not detonate and were discovered that afternoon as rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol. After his arrest he told investigators he believed someone needed to "speak up" for people who said the 2020 election was stolen and said he targeted the political parties because they were "in charge." Bomb-making components were recovered at his home. He initially denied involvement but later confessed to placing the devices.
