Pete Hegseth Reportedly Set Up Signal on Several Pentagon Computers to Circumvent Restrictions
Briefly

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth allegedly installed the encrypted messaging app Signal on multiple Pentagon computers to bypass a ban on personal phones. Reports from the Washington Post and New York Times reveal that Hegseth aimed to facilitate quicker communication with government officials amidst poor cellphone service in the Pentagon. Hegseth’s spokesman denied the allegations, stating he has never used Signal on government devices. An investigation was initiated after it was discovered that Hegseth and others had used the app for sensitive discussions, leading to concerns over security protocols in the Pentagon.
According to the Washington Post, Hegseth directed the installation of Signal on his computer following a discussion among Hegseth and his aides about how they could circumvent the absence of cellphone service in much of the Pentagon.
A spokesman for Hegseth denied the claims, stating that the secretary of defense had never utilized and does not currently use Signal on his government computer.
Hegseth had the consumer messaging app Signal set up on a computer in his office at the Pentagon to send and receive instant messages in a space where personal cellphones are not permitted.
The Pentagon launched a probe into Hegseth's use of the app after it was revealed that he and other senior members of the Trump administration discussed secret war plans in Yemen.
