Hundreds of demonstrators gathered Saturday evening at the Placita Olvera marketplace in downtown Los Angeles to protest the shooting death of a 37-year-old man by immigration officers in Minneapolis. Protesters carried banners and signs reading From Los Angeles to Minneapolis, stop ICE terror; America hates ICE; and Drop the charges on Minnesota activists, and chanted to abolish ICE and demand ICE out of Minnesota and Los Angeles. Speakers criticized local officials for approving surveillance technology even while creating funds for families affected by raids, and urged labor unions to call political strikes against ICE and the Trump administration. The crowd grew to about 400 people, marched down Los Angeles Street, blocked traffic, and congregated outside the federal building as a police helicopter circled overhead.
