PBS and NPR executives are preparing for a congressional hearing titled "Anti-American Airwaves," led by Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene. The hearing will focus on allegations of liberal bias in the organizations, with executives Paula Kerger and Katherine Maher set to testify. Greene has openly called for defunding these public broadcasting entities, a long-standing goal for some Republicans. The outcomes of this hearing could endanger funding crucial for their stations, heightening anxiety among employees and supporters as they brace for potential repercussions.
Everything is at stake, Ms. Kerger said in an interview. The future of a number of our stations across the country will be in jeopardy if this funding is not continued.
Ms. Greene said in an interview that she planned to call on the two top witnesses, Paula Kerger, the chief executive of PBS, and Katherine Maher, the chief executive of NPR, to address what she sees as liberal bias at their organizations.
