Bondi's conduct paralleled other contentious showdowns but stood out for its contemptuous tone and taunting. Senator Dick Durbin asked who ordered the FBI to flag mentions of Trump in the Epstein files, and Bondi declined to discuss the matter. Bondi accused Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of receiving contributions from an Epstein associate, a claim Whitehouse denied and said public finance reports do not show.
