Joseph H. Thompson, the second in command at the U.S. attorney's office in Minnesota, resigned amid the DOJ push. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz called Thompson a principled public servant who spent more than a decade achieving justice for Minnesotans. Senior career prosecutors Harry Jacobs, Melinda Williams, and Thomas Calhoun-Lopez also resigned without public explanations. Bondi accused the prosecutors of seeking to use annual leave at taxpayer expense, said she fired them, and alleged they had interviewed at liberal law firms.
