"We were out on Wednesday night immediately after hearing about Renee Good's shooting, Keith Porter's shooting. All of these deaths, it's just unconscionable,"
"We have many issues. But the immediate one right now is these horrible shootings by ICE. It's so tragic. And I just feel like we now have a secret police,"
"We're not putting up with it. It's time for the feds to back off. We don't want ICE anymore. We don't want any more murders,"
"They were held for several hours, and in order to make sure that they were safe and wouldn't leave until we knew what was going to happen to them,"
Hundreds of cities held protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good by an ICE agent. Demonstrations occurred from the Bay Area to Boston, with San Francisco protesters gathering along Van Ness Avenue and forming a human banner at Ocean Beach reading "IT WAS MURDER, ICE OUT!!" Organizers and participants called the shootings unconscionable, demanded that federal agents back off, and urged elimination of ICE. The Department of Homeland Security stated the agent fired in self-defense after Good allegedly drove toward the agent. Activists reported pepper-spraying and temporary detentions outside a San Francisco ICE office, with those detained later released.
