OpenAI's President Gave Millions to Trump. He Says It's for Humanity
"This mission, in my mind, is bigger than companies, bigger than corporate structures,"
"We are embarking on a journey to develop this technology that's going to be the most impactful thing humanity has ever created. Getting that right and making that benefit everyone, that's the most important thing."
"There's a small number of politicians who I think-despite realizing it's not the most popular thing-are really putting themselves out there to say, actually, we think [AI] is important for"
Greg Brockman and his wife Anna Brockman gave $25 million to MAGA Inc in September and $25 million to the bipartisan AI super PAC Leading the Future, with a pledged additional $25 million to Leading the Future in 2026. The Brockmans frame these donations as serving OpenAI's founding mission to develop highly capable AI systems and distribute benefits to all humanity. Brockman had minimal prior political spending, previously giving $5,400 to Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign. A Pew Research Center survey shows Americans more concerned than excited about increased AI use, increasing the perceived need to support pro-AI politicians.
