Oakland's Public Ethics Commission has a new leader
"Doran has been on the commission staff since 2016 and is highly respected by her colleagues,"
"I am honored that the Commissioners chose to place their trust in me as their next executive director," Doran said in a press release, "particularly at a time when voices for honesty and integrity in government need to be amplified at every level."
Suzanne Doran will serve as executive director of the Public Ethics Commission in Oakland. The commission is a volunteer board of seven Oakland residents, four appointed by other commissioners on a rotating basis and three appointed by the mayor, city auditor, and city attorney. Doran will lead a staff of eight professionals responsible for enforcing Oakland's campaign and ethics laws, investigating ethics complaints, and promoting trust and accountability in city government. Doran has worked on the commission staff since 2016, administered the disclosure and engagement program for nine years, led technology projects to improve public access to campaign finance and lobbying data, and oversaw the limited Democracy Dollars public funding program. Doran holds a bachelor's degree in rhetoric from UC Berkeley and a master's in public policy from Mills College, and becomes the commission's third leader in four years.
