NY's Young Republican chapter disbanded after racist messages exposed in group chat
"Everyone that votes no is going to the gas chamber."
"Great, I love Hitler."
"This is not one person saying that they love Hitler. This is a whole lot of people saying things that are so disgusting, so abhorrent, that everybody from the president on down should condemn them."
"These young Republicans call themselves the future of the party. Well, if they're the future, the future is pretty dark."
A pivotal vote approved disbanding of the New York Young Republican chapter after racist and antisemitic messages from a private Telegram group chat were made public. Several former leaders lost their jobs after exposure of texts that included violent and hateful language. The State GOP Executive Committee unanimously suspended the club, revoking its charter, voting power, and the use of the word "Republican" in its name. Top GOP leaders emphatically distanced themselves and called for removal of participants. Local Democrats and Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the messages and called for broad condemnation and accountability.
