No 10 was forced to apologise over John Major's improper' message to Queen Mother
"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground."
"Downing Street was forced to issue a grovelling apology after prime minister John Major's birthday telegram to the Queen Mother was addressed in an improper manner, newly-released government files have revealed. The Queen Mother's private secretary Captain Sir Alastair Aird telephoned No 10 demanding an explanation as to why the 1994 birthday greeting had been incorrectly addressed, papers released to the National Archives in Kew, west London, show."
The Independent covers issues from reproductive rights and climate change to Big Tech and sends journalists to developing stories. The organisation investigates topics such as Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC and produces documentaries like 'The A Word' about American women fighting for reproductive rights. The Independent does not use paywalls and relies on donations to fund reporters to speak to both sides. Downing Street apologised after Prime Minister John Major's 1994 birthday telegram to the Queen Mother was improperly addressed. The Queen Mother's private secretary complained and Roderic Lyne explained British Telecom misaddressed the telegram, absolving Downing Street staff.
