Nicki Minaj is making TikToks with MAGA Republicans now
"The Trinidadian rapper, 43, shocked fans last month after she appeared on stage with US president Donald Trump, calling herself his "number one fan". Minaj has faced criticism over the past few weeks for parroting right-wing, often anti-LGBTQ+, rhetoric, alienating her historically large queer fan base who have now dubbed her "MAGA Minaj", and doubling down on her views on trans youth."
"Minaj parroted numerous right-wing conspiracies - from lies about gender-affirming care for trans minors to believing the moon landing was fake - while saying that the backlash she had received had only pushed her further right. She said she related to Trump, claiming he had been subjected to a "bullying" campaign which, she said, had happened to her in the past. "I was watching it in real time happen to someone else, and I didn't think he deserved it," she said."
"The Starships singer's latest right-wing exploit saw her perform viral TikTok dances with treasury secretary Bessent, who is gay, in an awkward 20-second clip. The video, accompanied by a mash-up of What's Up by 4 Non Blondes and Minaj's 2012 single Beez in the Trap, was published as part of the government's Trump Accounts initiative, which allows children to create stock market investment accounts. Bessent, 63, became the first out gay man to head the Treasury Department after he was appointed to the position in January 2025. He has been branded a " traitor " by many within the community over his silence on Trump's anti-LGBTQ+ attacks."
Nicki Minaj publicly aligned with Donald Trump and embraced MAGA symbolism, calling herself his "number one fan". She has repeated right-wing, often anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric and doubled down on views about trans youth, prompting backlash from her historically large queer fanbase, which has labeled her "MAGA Minaj." Minaj appeared in a viral TikTok clip dancing with Treasury secretary Scott Bessent as part of the Trump Accounts initiative. Bessent, the first out gay Treasury head, has faced criticism for silence on anti-LGBTQ+ attacks. Minaj also voiced conspiratorial claims and said backlash pushed her further right.
