"Members of the Trump administration have been considering offering New York City Mayor Eric Adams the role of ambassador to Saudi Arabia, United States media have reported. The plan, according to reports by The New York Times and Politico on Friday, is aimed at convincing Adams to drop out of the mayoral race in November to help defeat left-leaning Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani."
"It remained unclear how involved Trump has been in the process, the newspaper reported. Adams has publicly said he plans to stay in the race. The mayor of the US's largest city, with a population of nearly 8.5 million people, has been accused of cooperating with Trump's deportation drive in exchange for the Justice Department dropping a corruption and bribery case against him. He has denied the quid pro quo."
Members of the Trump administration have considered offering New York City Mayor Eric Adams the ambassadorship to Saudi Arabia to convince him to drop out of the November mayoral race and help defeat left-leaning Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani. Adams is running as an independent after first being elected as a Democrat. His popularity has declined amid allegations that he coordinated with the Trump administration to alleviate his legal troubles; he denies any quid pro quo. Mamdani won a surprise Democratic primary victory in July over Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo remains in the race as an independent, with an overlapping support base with Adams.
