New York AG Letitia James gives spirited remarks in first appearance since indictment
Briefly

"We see powerful voices trying to silence truth, punish dissent − and, yes, weaponize justice for political gain,"
"We are witnessing the fraying of our democracy, the erosion of our system of government,"
"This, my friends, is a defining moment in our history. Let us stand together to defend our rights, to protect every safeguard, every institution, every immigrant, every norm, and every rule of law."
New York Attorney General Letitia James addressed a 3,200-person Manhattan rally for mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani four days after a federal grand jury indictment charging bank fraud and false statements. James received a minute-long standing ovation and repeated thunderous applause as she accused powerful actors of silencing truth and weaponizing justice. She warned of democratic erosion and urged collective defense of rights, institutions, immigrants, norms and rule of law. James previously sued Donald Trump over alleged lender fraud, secured a large penalty later reduced on appeal, and her office has appealed that decision.
