New prosecutor takes on the Georgia election case against Trump and others

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was disqualified from the Georgia election-interference case due to an "appearance of impropriety" tied to a romantic relationship with the special prosecutor she had appointed. The Prosecuting Attorneys' Council of Georgia was charged with naming a replacement. Several contacted prosecutors declined the appointment, and Council executive director Pete Skandalakis accepted the case personally. Fourteen other defendants remain charged, including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows, while legal action against Donald Trump is unlikely while he is president. Skandalakis said presidential pardons do not affect state charges and he may pursue, narrow, or dismiss charges.
