"You have a good independent running, Mayor Adams, who's a very good person. I helped him out a little bit. He had a problem and he was unfairly hurt over this question."
"Now, what was the problem the president was helping you with? How how did he help and what did he want in return?"
"No. I'm saying that the president knew what was happening to me was wrong"
"Referred it back to the DOJ. DOJ looked at it and did an analysis of what I was being charged with. Whatever the process is, I don't know what the process is. Just as President Biden, who said his Justice Department was politicized, the same Justice Department that indicted me, he pardoned his son and he made decisions. So whatever the process is, I'm not in that circle."
Mayor Eric Adams, running for reelection as an Independent, faced pointed questioning from MSNBC's Al Sharpton after a clip of President Donald Trump saying he had "helped him out a little bit." Sharpton pressed Adams on what problem Trump helped with and whether anything was requested in return. Adams said he did not know the specifics, insisted Trump never asked anything from him, and said the matter was referred back to the DOJ, which reviewed the charges. Adams denied involvement in any quid pro quo and said he was not part of the process.
