Monterey County Sheriff's Office delivered a report to the Board of Supervisors detailing collaboration with Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the Transparent Review of Unjust Transfers and Holds Act. ICE requested access to 295 incarcerated individuals in 2025; 21 individuals were released into ICE custody that year. Most requests did not meet California's legal criteria and were not acted upon. The California Values Act restricts sharing release dates or transfers to ICE to limited circumstances, such as serious or violent felonies. Charges of those released included domestic violence, burglary, possession of child pornography, and assault with a deadly weapon. Public officials and residents expressed concern about any cooperation with ICE.
