Monte Sereno fills last vacant council position
"While my health requires me to step away from public service, I am confident that Ken Toren's commitment to our community will make him an excellent addition to City Council,"
"dedication to and involvement in our community."
"It is a tremendous honor to be appointed to City Council,"
"I am committed to listening to the residents and working collaboratively to ensure Monte Sereno remains a great place to live."
Ken Toren was appointed to the Monte Sereno City Council at a special meeting on Sept. 16 to fill a vacancy until the midterm elections. The vacancy followed Vice Mayor Javed Ellahie's Aug. 5 resignation for health reasons. Lon Allan became vice mayor on Aug. 19 after being appointed earlier to fill Evert Wolsheimer's seat, leaving one council seat open. Mayor Burton Craig selected Toren from five applicants for his dedication and community involvement. Toren led nonprofits including the American Red Cross, now serves as regional vice president and executive director for the Alzheimer's Association across Northern California, Nevada, Arizona and Hawaii, and has secured over $20 million in venture investments. He lives in Monte Sereno and Los Gatos with his wife, three children and rescue dog Teo, and pledged to listen to residents and work collaboratively to keep Monte Sereno a great place to live.
