Governor Tate Reeves sent 200 Mississippi National Guard soldiers to Washington to support President Trump's effort to restore law and order in the capital. Jackson, Mississippi's capital, experiences a murder rate four times higher than Washington, D.C., and violent crime in the surrounding county is reported up more than 300% this year. Local residents expressed disappointment that state resources were sent to the capital instead of addressing local crime problems. Mississippi Democratic leaders argued the governor's priority should be reducing crime at home. Mississippi Republican leaders defended the decision to aid the nation's capital.
It's like status quo that Mississippi is Trump-supported, and anything that he supports, we tend to support always. And I would like for us to be more independent in our thoughts.
If there was an attempt to decrease crime by Governor Tate Reeves, it probably should have started at home. His only obligation is to the state of Mississippi.
