Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz drops bid for reelection, citing 'extraordinarily difficult year for our state' | Fortune
"that I can't give a political campaign my all"
"extraordinarily difficult year for our state."
"Donald Trump and his allies - in Washington, in St. Paul, and online - want to make our state a colder, meaner place. They want to poison our people against each other by attacking our neighbors. And, ultimately, they want to take away much of what makes Minnesota the best place in America to raise a family."
Tim Walz is ending his bid for a third term as Minnesota governor less than four months after launching a reelection campaign. Walz, 61, said he believes he would have won another term but cannot give a political campaign his all after what he described as an extraordinarily difficult year for the state. He cited ongoing investigations into fraud in the state's childcare programs and concern that President Donald Trump has used the issue as a political cudgel. Walz accused Trump and allies of trying to make Minnesota colder and meaner and of poisoning people against each other, threatening what makes Minnesota a strong place to raise a family.
