Luci Anderson, a 25-year-old Minnesota native and Olympic biathlete, felt jarred while preparing for the Winter Olympics after watching family members march in Minneapolis protesting an immigration crackdown. Anderson described struggling to reconcile the significance of pursuing an Olympic dream with the urgency of people back home fighting for rights. The U.S. Olympic contingent in Italy includes 26 athletes native to Minnesota, second only to Colorado, plus about a dozen others who live or train there. Many Minnesota-born Olympians expressed excitement about competing alongside anxiety and heavy hearts over the situation in their state. Lindsey Vonn said she intends to stand tall, represent America well, and show hope.
