Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison pledged that Democratic attorneys general will file repeated lawsuits targeting President Donald Trump, promising "44 more and 44 more after that." He identified litigation areas including gender-affirming care and protections for transgender people, medical research at the National Institutes of Health, birthright citizenship, and environmental protections. The remarks came at a Democratic National Committee summer meeting and included praise for Texas Democrats who opposed GOP redistricting. Ellison has served as Minnesota AG since 2019, previously represented the state's 5th district, briefly co-chaired the DNC, and served as special prosecutor in the Derek Chauvin trial.
And we have sued him for gender affirming care. Yes, we are not going to scapegoat our transgender community. And we have sued him to stand up for medical research, National Institute of Health, said Ellison. And we have sued him for birthright citizenship. And we have sued him to protect our environment. And we will sue him everyday and all the time and we will be unrelenting and I want you to know that.
Have we forgotten about our Texas Dems, standing up so bold, so brave, so powerful, said Ellison. And even us Democratic AGs have sued this dude 44 times. And we'll sue him 44 more and 44 more after that.
Ellison, who's served as Minnesota's AG since 2019, also served as the congressman for the state's 5th district from 2007 until his successful run for Attorney General. He briefly held the position of co-chair of the Democratic National Committee his tenure marred by allegations of domestic abuse which were eventually proven false. Ellison gained national attention for his role as special prosecutor in the trial of Derek Chauvin, the police officer who was convicted of murdering George Floyd in 2020 whom Ellison charged with second degree murder.
