"We could hear the flashbangs because they were right outside,"
"We immediately put together a shelter-in-place for our students on campus because there were protests erupting and ICE agents everywhere and tear gas and flashbangs,"
"At one point, there were fires being built in the street in trash cans,"
"It's right on one of our main streets."
Minneapolis College of Art and Design is about a block and a half from the location where U.S. Customs and Border Patrol agents shot Alex Pretti to death. The college heard flashbangs and implemented an 11-hour shelter-in-place as protests, ICE presence, tear gas, and flashbangs occurred nearby. Fires were reported in the streets and the Minnesota National Guard and city established a temporary perimeter. The college canceled classes for the week and will conduct remote learning for two weeks, locked buildings to non-badge holders, and expects the shooting site to become a frequented memorial. Two people, including Pretti, have been shot to death by federal agents amid a federal immigration crackdown in the Twin Cities.
