Hamas led an incursion into Israel on October 7, 2023, that killed around 1,200 people. Israel's two-year military response has killed more than 66,000 Palestinians in Gaza, according to Gaza health officials, with many estimates higher. US President Donald Trump declared the war over aboard Air Force One and said he believed the ceasefire would hold, adding that people were tired. Trump will visit Israel to meet hostage families and then travel to Egypt for a peace summit in Sharm el-Sheikh. Israel expects to receive 20 living hostages and the bodies of 28 others in exchange for about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and detainees. An international team will begin work to locate deceased hostages not returned within 72 hours.
