Mehdi Hasan laughed when Egyptian comedian Bassem Youssef jokingly said, "He lost his legs, and then he lost his balls and his honor," at ArabCon in Dearborn. Hasan then called Rep. Brian Mast one of the most racist people in Congress. Mast lost both legs and his left index finger in Afghanistan in 2010 after stepping on an improvised explosive device. Mast has been a vocal supporter of Israel, wore an Israeli Defense Forces uniform to Capitol Hill in 2023, and volunteered with a nonprofit that helped the IDF in 2015. Mast responded by warning Hasan and Youssef about possible retaliation from "terrorist friends."
