Matt Schlapp said he would embrace the mother of the Minneapolis Catholic school shooter if given the chance. The comments followed a deadly shooting at Annunciation Catholic School that killed two children and injured others during mass. Greta Van Susteren said she does not like having parents who lost a child on air and that she does not know what to say to grieving parents. Schlapp said mothers try and suggested the shooter's mother likely tried but made wrong moves. Schlapp recommended anonymous tip calls and proposed using Artificial Intelligence to identify outliers who threaten violence.
You knowI do not like to have a parent on who's lost a child, Van Susteren said, and Schlapp agreed. What do you say? I mean, the other night it was very difficult, there was a woman who was a Gold Star family who lost her son in Abbey Gate [Afghanistan] and she had a very important message. Because I wanted her to be able to tell everybody about her son, about his sacrifice and the impact, and I thought it was very important.
She's easier. I feel like I just want to hug her, because my guess The mother of the shooter? Van Susteren asked, stunned. My guess is she tried, Schlapp said. Mothers try. She just made all the wrong moves. But, I mean, all you do is pick up a phone call, maybe anonymously. My child is acting odd' or doing this.' I mean, I'm making the assumption that there was something to be seen, Van Susteren added.
