Rep. Thomas Massie has publicly criticized President Trump for undertaking military actions against Iran without congressional authorization. In a segment on MSNBC's All In with Chris Hayes, he compared Trump's actions unfavorably to those of former President George W. Bush, suggesting that Bush, despite being a target of Trump’s rhetoric, at least sought authorization from Congress before initiating military strikes. Massie expressed frustration over the lack of support from fellow lawmakers, citing concerns about political pressures from groups like AIPAC and fear of confronting the president.
I found it frustratingly hard to gain co-sponsors for what should be constitutionally obvious, which is the president can't engage in acts of war without authorization from Congress.
President Bush, longtime villain to Trump and his supporters, at least asked Congress for authorization to strike Iraq.
