Massachusetts Lawmakers Were Especially Moving in Speeches at the No Kings Rally in Boston
"On Saturday, on the lower Boston Common, on the fence around a softball field on which I once went 2-for-3 with an RBI and not far from where I once watched Pope John Paul II say a Mass in rain that came down so hard it caused steam to rise from the floodlights surrounding the altar, giving the whole thing the weird look of an ancient Druid ritual, a young lady hung what I believe is the most delightfully"
"The No Kings event in Boston had a special historical tang to it. For the last couple years, we have been celebrating the 250th anniversaries of the various original No Kings events. The Tea Party. Paul Revere. Lexington. Concord. Bunkertechnically, Breed'sHill. The crowd contained people in 18th Century drag standing next to people dressed as frogs, lobsters, unicorns, and chickens."
On the lower Boston Common a protest sign read "I accidentally got added to this protest via Signal Go," offering a wry, offbeat moment amid larger demonstrations. Organizers and attendees leaned on Revolutionary-era imagery, marking 250th anniversaries tied to the Tea Party, Paul Revere, Lexington, Concord and Breed's Hill. Participants ranged from people in 18th-century dress to costumed frogs, lobsters, unicorns and chickens. Speakers including Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, Senator Ed Markey and Senator Elizabeth Warren invoked anti-monarchical and anti-dictatorial themes, with mass-produced American flags visible and fair weather accompanying the gathering.
