'Masked, menacing' DHS agents abducted Somerville man, state rep. says
"masked and menacing Homeland Security agents"
"It was disturbing, I think,"
"There really has not been a lot of transparency. I think there's been a real lack of due process in a lot of these activities, and so what becomes so troubling is it's really hard to have confidence in anything that these federal agents are doing."
"we are fighting to protect his constitutional rights as it relates to his detention in federal court."
Federal immigration agents detained three people in Somerville this week. A man identified only as Luiz was taken while doing laundry in East Somerville. A video circulating on social media shows masked, unmarked Homeland Security agents getting into unmarked cars and wearing black masks that cover the lower half of their faces and unmarked tactical vests. Greater Boston Legal Services confirmed the case is ongoing, and legal teams are fighting to protect his constitutional rights in federal court. The city assisted in identifying the detainee by piecing together information from community members to enable habeas corpus petitions and keep detainees near loved ones.
