Markwayne Mullin Knocks Sen Pepper Sprayed at ICE Protest
Protests in Newark, New Jersey targeted alleged inhumane conditions at an ICE facility, with reports that some detainees began a hunger strike. President Donald Trump dismissed protesters as fake and paid for, joking that their signs were made at the same factory. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said only a handful of prisoners were holding a hunger strike over specific food. Mullin criticized protesters for gathering outside the facility on Memorial Day and attacked Sen. Andy Kim for being present. Video showed Kim with arms raised between demonstrators and ICE agents when pepper spray was deployed, and Kim said he experienced irritation and burning in his eyes and throat after pepper balls and spray passed near him. Mullin also blamed lawmakers for prioritizing protests over the facility’s detainees.
"While Mullin was dismissing protesters as Antifa and the detainees on a hunger strike, he blasted lawmakers who have taken part in the protests and Kim for complaining about getting hit with pepper spray when he probably shouldn't have been there. He said: It shows that these radical left Democrats' priorities when they decide to go out and protest a detention center where we're housing rapists, child predators, murderers, drug dealers. And they choose Memorial Day of all the day"
