Marjorie Taylor Greene Rages Against GOP Leadership Ahead of Looming Health Insurance Hikes: Absolutely Disgusted'
"The government shut down on Wednesday after the Senate failed to pass a continuing resolution to keep the government funded beyond Sept. 30. Democrats are seeking an extension of Covid-era healthcare premium subsidies under the Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obamacare. Unless those subsidies are extended, health insurance premiums for more than 20 million Americans enrolled in the program could double. Republicans aren't budging, however, and have falsely claimed that Democrats are attempting to secure government-sponsored healthcare for unauthorized immigrants, which is already illegal."
"But I'm going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children's insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district. No I'm not towing [sic] the party line on this, or playing loyalty games. I'm a Republican and won't vote for illegals to have any tax payer funded healthcare or benefits."
Government funding lapsed when the Senate failed to pass a continuing resolution to extend funding beyond Sept. 30, triggering a shutdown. Democrats are seeking to extend Covid-era Affordable Care Act premium tax credits that expire Dec. 31; without an extension, premiums for more than 20 million enrollees could double. Republicans have resisted the extension and falsely accused Democrats of seeking government-sponsored healthcare for unauthorized immigrants, which is already illegal. Although Republicans hold a 53-47 Senate majority, filibuster rules require 60 votes, meaning seven Democratic votes are needed to advance legislation. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized GOP leadership and urged action to prevent premium spikes.
