LIV Golf has once again sought inclusion in the Official World Golf Ranking after its prior application was denied almost two years ago. The OWGR has started reviewing this new application while emphasizing fairness and consistency. LIV Golf, consisting of 54 players on permanent teams, faces challenges regarding its closed membership structure and the integration of team and individual scoring. World ranking points play a crucial role in accessing major tournaments, and LIV Golf must navigate these complexities to secure its place in the rankings.
The OWGR denied the first application in October 2023, stating it could not fairly measure LIV Golf with two dozen other tours around the world due to its closed shop and compromised individual competition.
LIV now has 54 players, including 13 four-man teams and two wild cards, maintaining the roster throughout the season except for alternates used in case of injury.
World ranking points are critical to LIV because the four majors utilize the ranking to help determine the field, having added specific categories for LIV performers.
The OWGR Board is committed to a thorough evaluation process of all applications, ensuring fairness, integrity, and consistency in accordance with OWGR's criteria.
