Lin-Manuel Miranda appears in a campaign advertisement supporting Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer's bid for a fifth term. The 30-second spot highlights Schumer's work for New York's theater industry during the COVID-19 pandemic. Miranda says, "When COVID hit, we weren't sure we'd ever be back." He credits Schumer with creating the Save Our Stages program. Schumer helped secure roughly $15 billion for struggling arts venues as part of a $900 billion bipartisan pandemic relief package, with much of the money going to New York. The ad was filmed at New World Stages and ends with Schumer saying, "I approve this message - because in New York the show must go on." Schumer faces Republican Joe Pinion in the Nov. 8 general election and holds a wide lead in polls.
